- The exact error text, without sharing the code or full account details.

Check the destination number
Check the country selector and number against your own carrier record. Do not add a second country code when the app already displays one. Correct a typing error before requesting a new code.
Check the phone line, not just data
Look for cellular service on the line tied to that number. If you changed SIMs, check that the original line is still active. Ask the carrier whether incoming SMS is supported in mainland China on your plan. Do not assume a travel data plan can receive messages for your home number.
Distinguish ordinary SMS from one app’s code
If other SMS messages also fail, start with device and carrier support. Apple directs users with SMS failures to check connectivity and contact their carrier. If ordinary SMS works but this code does not, take the exact screen message to the app’s own support; carrier reception alone does not guarantee a verification message will be delivered.
Respect the retry screen and keep a fallback
Use the resend timer and any alternative verification method the app actually offers. Do not invent a voice-call fallback when none is shown. If you must leave now, keep your destination offline and use a transport or payment option that does not depend on this login.

Resolve the roaming or line-status issue with your carrier. More app requests cannot repair a phone line that cannot receive SMS.
Only one app’s codes are missing
Contact that app through its official help. Do not buy verification codes or use a stranger’s number to bypass account checks.
