NEWCOMER CHINA / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Arrange your reports before leaving the hospital

English-speaking service does not establish that every report will be issued in English. Verify the document language and collection procedure with the exact department, especially if you will leave China soon after the visit.

Report language can differ from consultation language

Chengdu First People’s Hospital’s international-department Q&A says original reports are in Chinese and describes certified external translation when needed. That is a useful example of why bilingual service and English reports should be treated as separate fields. Do not assume another hospital follows the same procedure.

Ask how and when to collect documents

Before the visit, ask which documents become available immediately, which require a later collection, and whether the hospital offers a supported remote route. Ask about passport identification, patient-card details and any authorization needed for someone else to collect them. The Chengdu Q&A describes proxy collection requirements for discharge documents; those conditions should not be generalized to every outpatient report.

Prepare previous records

Peking University Shenzhen Hospital’s International VIP page asks patients to bring previous medical records. Bring the documents relevant to your visit and ask the department whether translated versions are needed. This tool does not review, diagnose or interpret your medical records.

Clarify what “records” means

Make a list of the documents you need: visit note, test report, imaging report, receipts and, where relevant, imaging files. Confirm each one separately. We have not established a nationwide DICOM-download route, email-delivery guarantee or record-retention period. Do not treat a general patient portal as proof that all documents can be exported.

Check the receiving institution’s requirements

If the records are for an overseas clinician, employer or insurer, ask that recipient about language and translation certification first. A hospital issuing a translated document does not guarantee acceptance abroad. Keep original files alongside translations, and use an official collection channel rather than sharing passport or medical files with an unverified intermediary.
