NEWCOMER CHINA / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Confirm payment and insurance at the exact window

An insurer logo or a hospital’s international-service label does not guarantee coverage. Ask the hospital and your insurer about the exact department, service and policy before relying on direct billing.

Check the cashier route

Chengdu First People’s Hospital’s international-department Q&A describes Visa, Mastercard and cash at the cashier, and WeChat or Alipay for its international department. These are institution-specific published arrangements. They do not establish the same card acceptance at another hospital or even every counter in the same hospital. Confirm where payment takes place.

Direct billing is conditional

Huashan’s international-center listing names insurer direct-billing arrangements. Eligibility still needs confirmation for your policy and visit. Ask whether prior authorization, a guarantee of payment or an insurance card is needed, and whether any deposit or excluded service remains payable by you. The presence of an insurer name is not a promise that the visit is covered.

Insurance may change the registration channel

Peking University Shenzhen Hospital’s International VIP page directs commercial-insurance patients to the manual counter. Confirm registration and payment together: the ordinary online appointment path may not be the right route for your insured visit. The source does not establish every policy’s eligibility or the final price.

Ask for the scope of any estimate

Ask whether a quoted amount covers only the consultation or also tests, imaging, medicines and follow-up. Do not compare different hospitals using an unexplained total. This directory has no verified, standardized price table and does not calculate treatment costs.

Plan reimbursement before paying

Ask your insurer what documents it requires, then ask the hospital which receipts, itemized invoices and reports it can issue and in what language. If direct billing is unavailable, establish whether you must pay first and claim later. Coverage, translation acceptance and reimbursement decisions remain with the insurer. Keep your payment and visit documents together.
